In a detailed interview with The Wire, Naseeruddin Shah delved into topics like the anti-CAA protests, the notorious silence of Bollywood celebrities, student protests, and Deepika Padukone’s partnership. However, he shared few thoughts about his “Wednesday” co-star Anupam Kher, who is known for supporting the government and its policies on Twitter.
“Someone like Anupam Kher has been talking a lot. I don’t think he should be taken seriously. He is funny. Any number of his contemporaries from NFD and FTII can prove that he is sycophantic. It is in his blood, he can’t help it, said the 73-year-old actor.
Anupam Kher soon responded to Naseeruddin Shah’s “straight” comment by sharing a video on his Twitter handle. Kher, in the video, said, “Though I never said anything bad about you, but now I will.” You have been depressed all your life, even though you have achieved so much. If you criticize Dilip Kumar Sahab, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Shah Rukh Khan, and Virat Kohli, then I am with them.
Kher added: “No one has ever listened to your words, as we all know that because of the things you have been using all these years, you do not know the difference between right and wrong. Anupam Kher suggested that Naseeruddin Shah might be seeking attention by criticizing him, perhaps to get headlines. He also said: “Do you know what is in my blood?” Hindustan. Just understand this.”

Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah was one of the 100 prominent Muslim citizens from different parts of the country who challenged the decision of some judges to file a writ against the Ayodhya High Court verdict. They said they are worried that prolonging the conflict could harm the community.
