The Blink Outdoor 4 camera can already be set up anywhere you want, but this adds two liquid lights and a very respectable mount to the equation. To install it, you peel off the plastic back plate, and place it wherever you want the camera to go. On the front of the flash is a USB-C cable and a mounting bracket that fits on the back of the camera. Simply remove the rubber cap that seals the USB-C port on the back of the camera, and connect the USB-C cable from the power outlet. The USB-C plug has extra rubber to fill and seal the USB-C port, making it waterproof. Finally, place the camera on the bracket, and then insert the entire connector into the bracket that you have already attached to the wall.
Just like that, for an additional $40, you’ve gone from a stand-alone camera to two 700-lumen lights that will give you a great picture at night. In addition, they can illuminate the area for you with their motion detection. The lights are powered by four D-cell batteries and you’ll get the same two-year battery life promised on the Blink camera.
Of course, this raises the issue of the camera itself – how can you guarantee that the equipment will work for two years? In short, you can’t, unless you use it for two years. Like the Blink Outdoor 4 camera itself, although it doesn’t last a full two years, the four D-cell batteries are very expensive to replace. As long as you test the battery life in a few months, this is a very good idea.
