Thirteen years later, the team of Khichdi is back with another film to spoil the kids playing Jacky & Chakki. Why? Throughout the film, they are there for the first two minutes of the already known ‘bade log’. It starts with the simple statement of ‘based on a fictional event’, giving you a taste of what the film will have even before the first show.
The Parekhs are back, and the premiere shows them in a much poorer place than Adiprush’s VFX-heavy fake helicopters Scamesh Mehta (Prateik Gandhi), whose character is an in-your-face imitation of Scam 1992’s Harshad Mehta (thanks to that god-awful ear-inspired BGM). They are tasked by the Thodi Intelligence Agency to free Paanthukistan (not Pakistan) from a dictator who looks like a bearded Praful (Rajeev Mehta). How crazy they would go to do that is what this movie revolves around.

Khichdi 2 Movie Review: Text Analysis
Unashamedly wandering into Borat’s filmmaking territory, Aatish Kapadia unabashedly acknowledges the level of slapstick it deserves. It expands to the point of asking, “Did it even take that long?” It also proves the theory of why Khichdi can work as a television show and not as a film. It’s hard for veteran comedy writers to just deliver a plot twist that will draw guaranteed laughs for two hours straight.
Nothing more than screwball punchlines and berserk gags in the entire two hours. Because most of them (especially in the second half) don’t come off well, the film loses its unique flavor soon. The Khichdi-stamped mini liners work as crazy as they sound, but a slow decline begins as the film progresses.
Khichdi 2 Movie Review: Star Performance
Before I delve into their performances, I will say that they both haven’t shrunk a day since we last saw them on the show, and keeping the same looks for over two decades just proves big. all the talent these actors have. Supriya Pathak Kapur as Hansa carries a heavy load (pun intended!) combined with her unique way of portraying the lazy yet charming character that we love.
Rajeev Mehta, as Praful, sits at the center of this, and proves yet again why we can’t have anyone better than him. Anang Desai, as the ever angry Babuji, does his job well. Vandana Pathak as Jayshree was missed in this compared to the quirkiness she showed in the show. Jamnadas Majethia’s Himanshu has also missed the mark due to his poor performance in the show. Kirti Kulhari as Parminder was an unnecessary addition to the mix.

Khichdi 2 Movie Review: Action, Music
Aatish Kapadia takes all these characters to their core and that is why he is perfect to direct them. It is the ‘television’ support that he follows to explain the events of the film that does not really help him. I had the same problem with episode 1, and it continues to plague this one.
Chirantan Bhatt’s music is dull and adds unnecessary to the confusing ‘khichdi’ of the story. Raju Singh’s loud and unrelenting acting doesn’t do justice to the comedy skills the actor gets.
Khichdi 2 Movie Review: Final Words
All said and done, this could have worked well for watching and breathing on television, but the constant increase in lame jokes could be the cause of the film’s disappointment.
Two stars!
