The world of superheroes is witnessing turmoil as the leading studios, MCU & DCU, are standing in unsettled waters. As for James Gunn’s DCU, the stakes are high because he’s building a new universe from the ground up, and everything has to be bulletproof to be strong. While Superman: Legacy and The Authority of Chapter 1 are making enough noise, there is also DC’s Elseworlds and the current project in the sector. One of them is Constantine 2, starring Keanu Reeves, and it looks like there are updates.
For the uninitiated, Keanu is Hollywood’s most talented actor in high-profile roles, but in all these years, he took part in one IP, that is Constantine, and only once. Back in 2005, he played a popular character and won hearts, making fans crave for more. But nothing happened with the IP after that. In 2022, it was confirmed that a sequel to Reeves had already been made.
But now, if the latest update is anything to go by, Constantine 2 is walking a fine line. No, there is no chance of them being saved yet. But the thin line is that the film has to be good on paper itself to meet James Gunn’s strict standards for DC’s Elseworlds. Read on to find out everything you need to know about it.
DC’s Elseworlds includes all the non-DCU canon projects and has their own separate locations outside of the main timeline. Be the Joker, The Batman, and others like them, and the Elseworld in James Gunn’s new DCU. Constantine 2 will also join others in DC’s Elseworld. But, as per Movieweb, James Gunn has set very high standards for films that will be given the green light. Considering that Keanu Reeves’ star is in the making, the writer’s team has to work hard.
Constantine 2 will have Francis Lawrence returning to direct the sequel after doing an amazing job with the 2005 OG film. Akiva Goldsman has been hired to weave the story of this movie. It has already been confirmed by Lawrence that she is in talks with James Gunn and that they have already filmed the original plan for the film.
