Directed by Nia DaCosta, this superhero is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster, Captain Marvel, and is the 33rd film in the MCU. Since the founders were huge hits all over the world, expectations were high from the latest release. Of course, the ban on promotion due to the actors was about to distort the numbers, but no one expected the film’s low numbers.
According to a report by Variety, The Marvels has made less money $110 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, since then $63 million they are from the foreign market. This is not going well, because the Marvel biggies have been successful all over the world and have loyal fans in different parts of the world.
After North America, the second best performing area for The Marvels has been China. In China, the film did a business of $11.7 million weekend, and this is a disappointing start, to say the least. In the UK, it came back $4.3 million, followed by $3.7 million in Indonesia, $3.5 million in Korea, and $3.1 million in France.
According to the report, even the high profile is not helping The Marvels to make good money, it is just $10 million coming from IMAX to the international box office.
Speaking of Captain Marvel, the movie did very well upon its release, and it came at a time when the MCU was at its peak. Therefore, a detailed comparison is not appropriate, but since The Marvels is a sequel to the 2019 movie, we can only look at how both movies performed over the weekend.
